Distance : 22 miles

Monday 2 nd July

Eventually our corner of Loch Drumbuie became the Oyster corner as an Oyster 405 came and anchored nearby later in the evening. We all set off around the same time. We headed across to Tobermory for groceries and were followed out of the loch by Diotima. They followed us out and we both had our headsails up quickly and took photos.

They rushed on their way as they had to be back in Oban. We berthed for a couple of hours on a pontoon in Tobermory. Apart from provisoning we were able, for the first time, to recycle all of our glass, card, plastic and tins. Even in Inverness and Edinburgh they only recycled some things, so we had to find storage on the boat for all of our rubbish.

Before leaving we chatted to a couple who had just arrived on the same pontoon. They had their young son and dog who sail with them all the time. They recommended a restaurant in Loch Aline, which just happened to be where we were headed! The wind was south easterly and the tide was against us, but we decided to sail anyway. It was brighter following our stop in Tobermory and we had a lovely afternoon sail down the sound of Mull and into Loch Aline where we had to have a couple of goes to set the anchor. We think we found a rocky patch. Normally its really thick sticky mud.

Tuesday 3 rd July

We had a relaxing day and walked to the village through the woods and past waterfalls. We had been recommended The Waterside restaurant and they had a table free so we had a verry nice leisurely lunch. After a couple of hours we walked slowly back to the boat past the new pontoon that they were putting in last year. We read a poem dedicated by Alexander McCall Smith, clearly a regular to the pontoon and restaurant we had been in. (We still preferred to anchor, especially given the proximity of the sand mine). Loch Aline is known for it's high quality sand which has been mined for many years.
