Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

3 rd of October 2016 - On dry land again

Crew : Helen and Andy
Destinations : Crosshaven Boatyard.

We have been lifted!

After a couple of weeks living on the boat here in Crosshaven, servicing and preparing Speedwell, she came out of the water today. There was some doubt as to whether this would be able to go ahead as there were gales forecast again. However, the yard were ready and willing. After a couple of attempts to get in to the travel hoist, Andy gave the helm to the expert. The wind kept blowing the bow off and, as we had to reverse, which Speedwell isn't good at doing, it meant we had to get some speed on and head directly for the shore where a man stood with a rope. Unfortunately, we slowed down too early and drifted on to a rusty corner taking some of our get coat and paint off. Anyway we haven't done badly in terms of repairs so far this year.

The boat yard seem really professional and efficient so we already have our engine repairs booked, the professional riggers have been to check out the rigging and someone came today to look at some paint work we need doing as well as the repair to the gel coat.

Once we have done a few more minor jobs we are heading home.
