Ocean Mist Ship's Log

5 th of April 2008 - Winter Maintenance

Crew : Helen, Andy
Destinations : Shotley Marina.
Ocean Mist finally went back into the water yesterday. She has been out since before Christmas waiting for her bottom to be scrubbed. We chickened out of doing the anti-fouling ourselves this year and decided to have the best part of ten years anti-fouling sand blasted away to gave a her a lovely clean bottom. (Navy blue as it turns out).

We went down to prepare her for the new season of chartering and our 3 months live-a-board experience, which will start in July. We returned all of her kitchen equipment and replaced the lovely aired upholstery, which was rather like completing a 3D jigsaw. The sails were put back on complete with alterations to the mainsail. The life raft was turned up the right way and all the safety equipment put back in place on the push-pit. The cooker had a good old spring clean and some small repairs were made in the galley. Helen changed the impeller with Andy’s supervision and all the lockers were cleaned. Oh yes…and we serviced the winches and I sent Andy up the mast to check out the rigging!

It snowed as was forecast and was very cold overnight. We decided against sailing and, as we had run out of milk, we left at lunchtime on Sunday, after Andy had cleaned the decks.

Our next definite trip will be on 6th July 2008 when we aim to go to Holland with Britannia Sailing. After that we will then turn right out of Harwich and keep heading along the coast to the West country, just Andy, me and hopefully the odd guest.
