Tuesday 5 th - Wednesday 6 th June

A breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs was prepared by Angeliki and Alberto, before starting to get the boat ready for an over night passage to Edinburgh. We left around 12.30 pm and headed out of the harbour.

The sea state was much improved and we were able to to sail straight away making around 7 knots through the water under all three sails. After around 3 hours, sadly, the wind dropped and the motor had to be turned on. The tide also turned against us, however the sea state remained quite settled so it was much easier sailing and we were able to rest well between watches. We had a fantastic evening meal cooked by Alberto of his mum's special Ragu sauce and penne.

The night was slightly darker than previously as it was quite overcast and at times wet. We were followed by The Warship Grimsby which lurked out of the dark every so often, although we could see it on our AIS.

As we headed into the Firth of Forth we were able to turn off the engine and sail slowly to the Forth Rail Bridge and pass under that and the road bridge.

We got to Port Edgar around 9 am, much earlier than expected, and just before low water. Despite calling Port Edgar Marina to query the depth of water in our allotted berth, we were reassured that we could berth temporarily on the fuel pontoon. Unfortunately, lack of local knowledge took us over a shallow patch and we became grounded in the middle of the marina. We dropped the anchor and had a cup of tea and a biscuit. A few boats came by pointing out the deeper water, although by then it was too late for us. Fortunately it was low water so we only had a couple of hours to wait before being able to float across to the fuel pontoon.

Eventually we found our berth and sorted out the boat and made an evening meal. Angeliki was able to sort out their flights home and booked a table in Tom Kitchen's restaurant in Leith for Thursday evening. After supper Alberto and Angeliki headed to the pub.
