Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

13 th of August 2010 - Loch Aline

Crew : Helen and Andy
Destinations : Loch Aline.
Distance : 20 miles

We decided to have a gentle sail to Loch Aline after lunch so left around 1300. We managed to sail off our anchor, however, the loch was so sheltered we didn't have enough wind to get us out so we had to turn the engine on after all. Initially it seemed we might not have much wind. However, once out of the Loch we had a nice Force 4/5 on our beam and sailed around the corner into The Sound of Mull. We were slightly early as Loch Aline has a narrow and shallow entrance and we had arrived at low water. We carried on sailing and then turned around. As we passed the Loch's entrance a ferry was leaving. I was very surprised and happy when it gave way for us. We were pushed into the Loch with the tide over the shallow ledge and headed toward it's head where we found another peaceful anchorage for the night.
