7 th July

The weather forecast was set to change with strong NW winds forecast, possible Force 7s. We were also aground when we woke as the wind had changed direction. We have made a habit of this at The Rocks as I like to be nice a cosily tucked in to the shore. This is fine in gentle winds, but with the forecast we knew we needed to move, either in The Deben or head back to The Ore. We decided on the latter. We set off after breakfast in order to get out on the flood with enough depth, but also to have the flood taking us down to Harwich. Once out of the river, we had a fantastic sail close hauled on rather bouncy seas, making over 8 knots under genoa and mizzen. We headed out across the deep water channel and were then able to tack and get a good angle into Harwich with no further need for tacks. We picked up a buoy opposite Levington where we were relaxing and watching the activity on the river by 13.05. In the end the winds weren't quite as bad as forecast the following day.
