Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

18 th to 19 th of August 2018 - Helford River

Crew : Andy and Helen
Destinations : Ponsence Cove.
Distance : 16 miles

We left the anchorage at 0950 and headed down The Carrick Roads to Falmouth Haven to pick up some diesel. We then sailed out of the harbour, tacking 3 times to get us into the entrance of the Helford River. We decided to anchor just at the entrance on the south side to get good protection from the forecast strong westerly winds.  Despite it seeming very exposed to the sea, we were well protected by the land so had a couple of good nights sleep. It was a beautiful cove with access to the South West Coast Path so we were able to have a lovely walk into the village. It had been pretty overcast and rained in the morning so the sun was just coming out as we returned to the boat. The small beach was empty making it perfect for a quick skinny dip. The pebbles were also ideal for a bit of stone skimming.
