Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

19 th to 20 th of May 2018 - Ria de CamariƱas

Crew : Andy and Helen
Destinations : CamariƱas and .
Distance : 40 miles

We set the alarm for 0515 in order to be ready to leave at first light. We were ready in good time so waited until we could see our surroundings before we weighed anchor. We saw Lazy Otter leaving, but it took us a while to get the anchor up as Andy had to clear it of lots of weed that had collected on the chain before it went into the locker. Eventually we motored out of the Ria. There seemed to be some wind outside so we managed to sail briefly until it died away completely. We slowly made up the distance between us and Lazy Otter and, as we got to Cape Finisterre keeping close to the headland, we lost sight of them. We motored the rest of the way with the wind slowly building on our nose. However, it was a comfortable trip and we headed up into the beautiful tree lined Ria,  past the town and were anchored at the head of the ria by 1345. It was a lovely still and warm evening. We decided to spend a couple of nights here as the wind was forecast to increase from the north the following day and then reduce and possibly go southerly on Monday.
