Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

27 th of June 2016 - Settling in

Crew : Andy and Helen
Destinations : Ipswich.

After finally stopping work and a celebratory garden party, we drove down to ipswich to establish ourselves on Speedwell and make some final preparations before setting off on Friday. These last minute jobs included: provisioning, planning the journey, updating charts, stowing the bikes and provisions, washing the green foliage from the cockpit, waxing the woodwork, filling water and fuel tanks and finally just getting used to being back on the boat long term,  after having to work full time and live in a house for the past 4 years.

I was quickly reminded that life can be slightly more difficult on a boat. Changing a light bulb involved two trips up the mast. Having a shower involves long walks, often in the rain. That is until we leave the marina. Then we go without altogether until the boat is stable enough to use our own shower in the forepeak heads. We have finally got rid of the car, so walked in to town this morning, where we bought several DVD box sets and a few last minute groceries. We are now relaxing doing a few minor jobs whilst waiting for our crew, Grethe and Andy to join us.

The weather forecast is for some strong winds from the west or south west and moderate seas. As there doesn't seem to be any worse weather expected. we will probably set of fas planned, across the Thames Estuary on Saturday morning. I suspect we will have to stop at some point, as it will probably be quite hard going.
