Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

28 th to 29 th of March 2019 - Plymouth

Crew : Helen Andy and Henry
Destinations : Sutton Harbour Marina.
Distance : 43 miles

We left our mooring at 0755. Once out of the harbour we had the sails up and were sailing gently past St Anthony's Head. We managed to sail for an hour or so with the Cruising Chute until the wind died completely and we had to resort to the engine. It was a beautiful sunny day but mainly one for drinking tea in the cockpit as we motored along the coast and across the bay toward Plymouth. We had a few visits from dolphins and scared a few guillemots into their comical dives to escape the boat.

As we neared Rame Head there were several American warships around. Once was very unfriendly toward a fishing boast that got a bit close and we thought it might open fire. There were a few sailing boats around but really very few. We decided to go into the centre of Plymouth expecting winter rates for Sutton Harbour. Sadly once we had got in and committed to two nights we found it was the most expensive place we had stayed in. We thought maybe we would be supplied with clean towels and a cooked breakfast the following morning but all we were offered was free coffee. We said goodbye to Henry and wondered how we would manage without him.

The following day we went for a walk around Plymouth Hoe and I went for a swim off the Art Deco beach. Lovely.
