Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

7 th of April 2019 - Circular trip

We were up at 0700 and out of the harbour by 0830. We were able to sail close hauled to a point quite far south of our waypoint off St Albans Head. We had pretty cloudy conditions but the sun did slowly appear every now and then. Unfortunately the wind was coming from the east and about a Force 5 so, despite the support of the tide, we weren't making great time. As we got closer to the headland the seas were building and the sun had disappeared. We were going to have to turn directly into the wind to get to Poole and it looked like what we expected to be a 4 or 5 hour trip was going to take much longer. Susan was by this time not feeling well so we decided to turn round and head back to Weymouth before I joined her down below. We then had a lovely sail along the coast with hazy views of the Dorset coast and Durdle Dor. Susan recovered quickly and was able to join us up on deck.

Once we were tied up alongside we had a late lunch before Nick arrived. to take Susan home.
