Speedwell of Rhu Ship's Log

29 th to 30 th of August 2017 - The Algarve

Crew : Helen and Andy
Destinations : Enseada de Sagres.
Distance : 65 miles

Leaving Sines at first light again for a long day sail, we were accompanied by a few other yachts, two of which motored off into the distance. There was no wind again so we motored for most of the day. We passed the two headlands of Cabo de São Vicente and Ponta de Sagres to head into the small bay of Ensenada de Sagres. Suddenly the swell that had been with us for the whole of the Portuguese coast disappeared. The beach was also undeveloped and felt quite remote. There was a fair amount of wind but it was northerly and off shore. The sea temperature had increased by another couple of degrees and we were surrounded by cliffs and caves. This was the Algarve.

We spent the following day at anchor and surprisingly one boat dragged their anchor after a night at anchor and another French boat which had also been there since before we arrived dragged and took some time to set it again. This gave us some entertainment and fortunately both boats were able to anchor again.
